On Mafia 3 I directed the initial scan shoots at OToys Lightstage in Burbank. Main story characters were scanned at this facility.  I worked on adjusting the poses we scanned to get the best reference material for the modelers. The order of the poses was important for the actors. It was good to start out with some non-emotive relaxed poses so they could get comfortable with the process. They also had to get used to holding the pose at the correct moment. Similar emotional states should be grouped together so the actor can really give that genuine smile or convincing anger smoothly. Some actors (usually those with lighter eye colors) had trouble with the light levels being too bright so we would sometimes adjust the shoot to allow more poses with closed eyelids. Modelers wanted to see the poses in motion so we started taking video reference of the sessions as well. The reference video turned out to be a huge addition adding an additional 40-80 GB of data, doubling the data for each shoot.
